The Farmer is one of the least important characters in Dragon Ball Z, but because he’s one of the very first characters we see, he becomes oddly memorable. Still, he’s kind of a wasted character.

As his name suggests, he’s just a simple farmer living out in the mountainous wilderness, apparently dealing with hay and alien-looking ostriches.

When Raditz’s spaceship crash-lands on Earth, the Farmer goes to investigate—when really, he should have just driven away.

He’s also the first person we ever see a power scouter used on, revealing a base power level of 5. Using this as a reference, someone once calculated that DC’s Superman would have a power level similar to Vegeta’s when he first lands on Earth. Honestly, that makes sense to me.

But then the Farmer tries to fight Raditz like some drunk Texan, pulling out a gun and shooting at him with a metal bullet. Raditz catches it and throws it back, killing him instantly. That makes the Farmer the very first person to die in Dragon Ball Z. And I’m 99.9% sure he was never wished back.
