Kid Buu is technically the last villain of the anime Dragon Ball Z and arguably its strongest antagonist. He was definitely a well-written villain, but he was also the kind you couldn’t wait to see perish when his time came.

According to the original story, he was a creation of the wizard Bibidi, and the little pink monster was essentially his ultimate killing machine. They recently retconned this, saying he was born in some kind of demon realm and that Bibidi merely discovered him or something along those lines. But why would a wizard and a small creature randomly commit genocide without reason? At least Frieza had a clear motive: he wanted to rule the universe.

It doesn’t take Kid Buu long to go after the Kais of the Other World. He easily wipes out the weaker ones whenever he finds them alone.

But when he faces the South Supreme Kai, he becomes noticeably anxious about whether he can win the fight. Instead of risking defeat, he decides to absorb him, transforming into something similar to Super Buu but with more muscular features.

Later, Goku and Vegeta invade Super Buu’s mind and start freeing the people he had absorbed. In the process, they accidentally trigger Kid Buu’s return. At first, they don’t take him seriously because of his small size. But almost immediately, he decides to blow up the entire Earth. Although Akira Toriyama later retconned it, I still believe Kid Buu was more dangerous because of his complete lack of restraint. However, I do think Buuhan was his most powerful form.

For example, when Goku and Vegeta fight him on the Planet of the Kais, the two Super Saiyans actually manage to hold their ground for quite some time (even at Super Saiyan 2) whereas Super Buu had previously overwhelmed them with ease.

Like most of the series’ main villains, except for Cell, Kid Buu is ultimately hit by the Spirit Bomb, a massive attack powered by the collective energy of the resurrected Earthlings.

Surprisingly, he’s the only villain who actually perishes from it. Someone had spoiled the ending for me back in middle school, so it wasn’t shocking. But it was still deeply satisfying to watch the little pink menace vanish into nothingness. In the end, King Yemma grants Goku’s sweet wish to have Buu reincarnated, but this time as a kind-hearted human rather than a chaotic alien demon.
